Definition
An ATS is the system that manages job requisitions, postings, applications, candidate stages, interviews, and offers through the hiring process.
The applicant tracking system is where a requisition is opened, a posting is distributed, applications land, candidates move through stages, interviews are scheduled, and offers are extended. It holds the audit trail regulators and courts look at when hiring decisions are questioned, which is why decisions made outside the ATS create risk.
AI screening tools should work inside the ATS's model: read the requisition's criteria, write scores and rationale back as candidate notes, move stages only on a recruiter's approval, and leave the ATS as the record of who decided what.
Meridian's Recruiting Agent integrates with the ATS in both directions and produces an adverse-impact report per requisition alongside the shortlist.
