The agent contract

Six terms every agent runs under.

Not a chatbot, and not an open-ended assistant. Meridian ships narrow, governed agents, each scoped to one workflow, operating on your HR and finance data under your own security model.

The same six terms apply to every agent on the platform, whether Meridian built it, a partner did, or your team did in Studio. They are enforced at the Gateway, below the agent, so no prompt and no builder can switch them off.

How the terms are enforced

Agents

One agent per workflow. Twelve workflows.

Each agent is scoped to a single job, reads only the data it is permitted to, and reports a measurable outcome. Six for HR, five for finance, one for legal. Nine are generally available today.

Platform

The layer under the agents.

A registry that is the system of record for every agent you run. A gateway that connects any agent through open standards. Zero-copy access to your data. A studio to build your own. One trust model across all of it.

The system of record for agents

Every agent in your enterprise. One record each.

One registry of every agent, whether built by Meridian, a partner, or your own team, with owner, role, permissions, data touched, and compliance status. Workforce analytics that count agents and people together.

  • One record per agent

Owner, role, purpose, permissions, model, data scopes, and status for every agent, including partner and customer-built ones registered through the Gateway.

  • Permissions and data lineage

Agents hold no standing credentials. Each inherits scopes from your identity provider and the source system's security model. The Registry shows exactly which tables and documents each agent can read.

  • Compliance status

Review dates, risk tier, approved use cases, and evaluation results per agent. Agents that miss a review are flagged; agents that fail an evaluation can be paused automatically.

Open standards, governed

Bring any agent. Govern it here.

The Gateway connects third-party and custom agents to the Registry through open standards: Model Context Protocol for tools, agent-to-agent protocols for handoffs, OpenTelemetry for observability, and your identity provider for access.

  • MCP tool servers

Expose your systems as Model Context Protocol tools with per-agent scopes, schema validation, and rate limits. Meridian ships servers for common HR and finance systems; add your own.

  • Agent-to-agent handoffs

Agents delegate sub-tasks to other agents over A2A-style protocols. The originating user's identity and approval context travel with the request.

  • Policy enforcement point

Every tool call is checked against policy: allowed tools, data scopes, cost ceilings, and approval requirements. Denials and holds are logged with the rule that fired.

Zero-copy access

Agents read your data where it lives.

Zero-copy access to Snowflake, Databricks, and BigQuery, governed SQL, an Apache Iceberg lakehouse, and more than 3,000 prebuilt connectors. Row and column security is inherited, not reimplemented.

  • Zero-copy warehouse access

Agents query Snowflake, Databricks, and BigQuery in place through native sharing. No extract, no second copy, no drift.

  • Inherited security

Row-level and column-level policies defined in the warehouse or source system apply to every agent query. Agents cannot see more than the user they act for.

  • Apache Iceberg lakehouse

An open-format lakehouse you own, for sources without a warehouse footprint. Query it with the engine of your choice.

Low-code agent builder

Build your own agents on the same guardrails.

Studio is a low-code builder for agents on top of your data and Meridian's controls. Approval steps, evaluation sets, and Registry registration are built in, not bolted on.

  • Visual composition

Triggers, data reads, reasoning steps, tool calls, and approvals as blocks. Code where you want it, none where you do not.

  • Approval steps as blocks

Route consequential actions to named approvers or roles. Approvals are enforced at the Gateway, so a builder cannot skip them.

  • Evaluation sets

Define expected behavior on real examples. See pass rates and regressions before publishing and on every model change.

The conversational front door

Ask once. Search, generate, or run an agent.

Assist is the conversational interface across Meridian and your connected systems. Search with citations, generate documents from governed data, and start agents from the same place, with your permissions applied.

  • Search with citations

One query across your document stores, HRIS, ERP, and collaboration tools. Every result carries its source and the user's existing permissions apply.

  • Generate from governed data

Job descriptions, policy summaries, variance narratives, and board-ready tables generated from data the user can already see.

  • Run agents from chat

Start the Audit Agent on a PBC list or the Scheduling Agent on an open shift from the same conversation. Approvals still apply.

Questions

What buyers ask first.

Straight answers on models, data, approvals, deployment time, and cost.

An AI agent is software that completes a defined piece of work by reading data, reasoning about it, and taking actions in your systems. Meridian's agents are each scoped to one workflow: resolving an HR case, screening a candidate, packaging audit evidence, testing a payment for duplicates. Each reads only the data it is permitted to, logs every step, and hands consequential decisions to a named person.

A chatbot answers. An agent finishes the work. Meridian's agents open and close cases, book interviews, prepare reconciliations, and produce evidence packages inside your systems of record. They are also narrower by design: each does one job, against defined data, under an approval policy, with a measurable outcome the Registry reports.

No. Customer data is never used to train Meridian's models or any third-party model. This is a contractual commitment in the DPA. Data stays in the region you select, and zero-copy warehouse sources are never moved.

The ones you choose. Meridian is model-agnostic and supports frontier models from leading providers, including Anthropic and OpenAI models. HR and finance domain reasoning is routed to Meridian's own tuned models. You can pin a provider and region per workspace and change it later; evaluation sets re-run so you see any behavior change first.

Each agent has a policy naming which actions are consequential: moving money, changing pay, rejecting a candidate, sending a document externally. When the agent reaches one, the action is held at the Gateway and routed to the approver you named, in Slack, Teams, email, or the workspace. The agent cannot proceed until a person approves, edits, or rejects. Every decision is logged.

Weeks, not quarters. Design partners connected their first systems in week one and ran a live pilot of the first agent in weeks 3 to 5. Most were in production on two or three agents within a quarter. Connectors, approval templates, and evaluation sets are prebuilt; the time goes to tuning scope against your real data.

Your HRIS, ATS, payroll provider, ERP and general ledger, planning platform, CLM, banking, expense, and ticketing systems through more than 3,000 prebuilt connectors, and your warehouse (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery) through zero-copy sharing. Agents work inside Slack, Microsoft Teams, email, and the browser.

Plans include a monthly credit allowance, and agents consume credits when they complete actions: 2 for an HR case resolved, 1 for a candidate screened, 8 for a contract redlined. Starter is $499 per month with 5,000 credits and a 14-day free trial. Growth is $2,499 per month with 30,000 credits. Enterprise has custom pools. Overage is $0.12 per credit.
